ROUNDABOUT

"Roundabout" is the magazine of Mothers' Union in the Gloucester Diocese containing news and views from around the county.

Articles, news or creative writing from members are always welcome and may be sent to the Mothers' Union Office marked for the attention of Judith Windmill, The Editor, Roundabout. Alternatively any Articles, items or announcements for "Roundabout" can be submitted by email to info@mugloucester.org.uk

Thanks to Mike Thompson for putting the cover together for each issue. Please e mail us any digital photographs of your activities and they may be included on a future cover although we do not promise! Mike is sometimes VERY short of material to use so please send in your pictures.

We welcome as our new Editor Judith Windmill who will soon be adding her own information

Roundabout tries to include news about activities in our diocese, deaneries & branches…..whilst not forgetting to look outward to our links round the world as well! It aims to achieve a balance between news of past events as well as advertising events in the future.

Please do not be too modest! I am sure many branches hold interesting events, or perhaps have speakers on an unusual subject, or novel ways of inviting along non-members to see what Mothers' Union get up to. Let me know & I can print a short article about your event in Roundabout provided you don’t mind other branches perhaps borrowing your ideas!

I would also like some news at the deanery level so if you are a deanery leader etc. how about sending a few lines to me about your activities. We must not be too shy……please don’t wait to be asked!

However please also bear in mind that if every deanery & every branch send me news for the next issue there simply won’t be room so don’t be offended if your item doesn’t get printed immediately, I love to hear your news anyway!

Thank you for your co-operation at branch level in sending “announcements” to me for the back page with people’s names in CAPITAL letters, that is a great help. Just a reminder that we only list congratulations after the date has passed so please do not send me advance notices as then I need to telephone you nearer the time to check that the people concerned did make their special celebration without a sad change of circumstances before their special date. Generally speaking we include the following: Silver, Ruby, Golden & Diamond Wedding Anniversaries, (please include the husband’s name!) & 80th, 90th, 100th birthdays. Deaths are included but there isn’t usually space for obituaries. I am afraid there is not room for 40th, 50th, 60th or even always 70th birthdays. also I do not include 75ths. 85ths or 95ths although of course all birthdays are special! Diocesan Members please send me your special announcements too.

Also remember to tell me about NEW MEMBERS you have enrolled at your Branch and those you have welcomed to your branch who have perhaps moved from another diocese or branch due to a house move.

I am keen that the print should not become too small for us all to read comfortably, so from now on some articles may have to be held over to the next edition if there is not enough space to print all articles in at least font 12.

When you have read your copy of Roundabout & jotted dates etc down in your diary why not pass your copy on to a friend at Church who isn’t a member of Mothers' Union so they can read about some of the things we get up to! They may end up joining us!!
